Several state and county routes enter the village from different directions. From the southeast is New York State Route 5 (State Road). It brings motorists from the neighboring town of Avon. When Route 5 reaches the center of the village, it turns west and becomes Main Street. NYS-5 exits Caledonia in the west and continues to the Town of Le Roy. From the southwest is New York State Route 36 (Leicester Street). Route 36 brings motorists from the neighboring Town of York. From the east, it is County Route 21 (Iroquois Road). Route 21 ends in the center of the village. From the north is New York State Route 36. It brings motorists from the Town of Wheatland. As Route 36 enters the village it is named North Street. When NYS-36 reaches Main Street, it turns west and joins NYS-5 as Main Street for a few blocks. When it reaches Leicester Street, NYS-36 turns southward and continues southward as it exits the village.

As these roads enter the village, the speed limit is reduced from 55 mph to 30 mph. However, many motorists do not notice the signs or fail to adjust their speed properly. The most typical traffic stop occurs at the entrance of the village where a speeding citation is issued. There is a particular area of the village where motorists need to be extra cautious. There is a school zone established on NYS-36 for the Cal-Mum High School and Caledonia-Mumford Elementary School. It is located near the village’s northern boundary. This school zone drops the speed limit from 30 to 20 miles per hour. Ample time is given to adjust speed; however motorists still miss the sign and end up unintentionally speeding. Traffic offenses committed in a school zone are a serious matter. They come with possible double fines.

Traffic tickets in the village can be issued by officers of the Caledonia Police Department, deputies of the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, or troopers of the New York State Police. Violations alleged to have occurred are made answerable to the Caledonia Village Court. There is also the Caledonia Town Court, which has jurisdiction over the rest of the town, outside of the village. The two courts share a courtroom and court personnel.
