Olean is a city in Cattaraugus County, New York. It is located in the southwestern area of the state, just north of the Pennsylvania state line and approximately seventy-five miles south of Buffalo. Olean is the main commercial area of Cattaraugus County. The city is surrounded by the town of Olean. The city is geographically smaller than the town but has a larger population., the city population was estimated at 14,000.
