Gaines is a town in Orleans County, New York. It is part of the West New York region. As of August of 2022, the town population was 3,166. Gaines is named after General Edmund P. Gaines. The town was formed in 1816 and makes up thirty-four square miles. It consists of several hamlets and part of Albion village. The hamlets are named Childs, Eagle Harbor, East Gaines, Five Corners, Gaines, Gaines Basin and West Gaines.
